Piano Compositions (2023-25)

Piano was my first instrument, and how I got into composing, creating little pieces for myself to play. I've kept it up even as I got into electronic and computer-based music, and here are some of my favourites:

Shadow Dance (2025)

Shadow Dance is one of my solo piano pieces, which is actually how I started out composing. It was made for a Hallowe'en recital hosted by my piano teacher last year, and was created as a sort of waltz for the creatures of Hallowe'en. I found a pretty interesting chord progression for the 'A' section of the piece, which lends the piece a dark quality that I find in keeping with the spirit of Hallowe'en. As with most of my piano pieces and with my taste in piano music, it is played rubato with a good sense of movement and push-and-pull. I have the audio recording of myself playing it attached here, but I have attached a PDF of the sheet music with my portfolio. The sheet music is a bit barebones, as I was really only using it to keep track of the way the piece sounded after composing it at the piano.
